The marathon will commence at Galle Face Green and aims to position Sri Lanka as a premier destination for both leisure and sporting events,
“Our goal with the ICA’s 1st International Half Marathon is to establish Sri Lanka as a prime location for sports tourism and outdoor recreation, while also encouraging locals to engage more in physically challenging activities, we are thrilled with the enthusiasm from both local and international participants, many of whom are visiting Sri Lanka for the first time. Our team is dedicated to ensuring a memorable marathon experience, complemented by genuine Sri Lankan hospitality.” said Captain Anirban Banerjee, President of the ICA.
Proceeds from the event will support the ICA’s CSR initiatives, including aiding orphanages, promoting self-pledged organ donations, and planting Na trees in local schools. These trees will symbolise the environmental impact made by each race participant.
The marathon route, starting and ending at Galle Face Green, will showcase some of Colombo’s most picturesque spots, such as Marine Drive and Galle Road, offering runners a comprehensive tour of the city and its coastline.
The race will feature three categories: the half marathon (21.0975 km), the Challengers Run (10 km), and the Family Run (5 km). Winners will be awarded Rs 1 million along with various other prizes.
