The lack of networking opportunities for women entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka is a significant barrier that limits their ability to thrive in global trade, according to the Export Development Board (EDB).
In an effort to address this issue, the EDB recently hosted a networking and knowledge sharing session for 50 selected women entrepreneurs in the country, to support their efforts in navigating international markets.
“The event was part of the EDB’s ongoing commitment to supporting women entrepreneurs, under its Women Entrepreneurship Development Programme. By addressing the barriers and fostering an environment for shared learning, the EDB continues to empower women entrepreneurs to achieve greater heights in the export sector,” the EDB stated in a media release.
Several industry experts and business leaders attended the event to share their insights on key topics such as sustainable exporting, entry challenges in markets and cultural differences in international negotiations.
The panel of speakers at the event included Ceylon Natural Rubber Managing Director Mano Sheriff, Akbar Brothers General Manager Tea Adrian Gabriel and University of Colombo Chair Professor of Human Resource Management Prof. Arosha Adikaram.
Moreover, Orel Academy Head of Operations Priyanka Perera, Business Consultant and Sustainability Practitioner Priyadarshinie Karunarathne and British Cosmetics Managing Director Nirosha Jagoda took part in the session to share their industry expertise with the women entrepreneurs at the event.
