November tea production expands 12.7% YoY

Sri Lanka’s tea industry recorded a boost in November with production climbing to 22.3 million kgs. This is a 12.7 percent increase from 19.78 million kgs in the same month last year. This rise also marked a 9.5 percent improvement over the 20.36 million kgs produced in November 2022.

Provisional data showed all elevations, High, Medium, and Low Growns, contributed to the month’s growth.
The positive trend extends to the year-to-date numbers. From January to November 2024, total tea production reached 240.01 million kgs, up 1.6 percent compared to 236.28 million kgs in the same period of 2023. While High Grown teas saw a dip this year, Medium and Low Grown teas made up for the shortfall with solid gains.

Looking further back, production over the first 11 months of 2024 outpaced 2022 figures by 7.88 million kgs, a 3.4   increase from the 232.13 million kg recorded two years ago. Apart from High Growns, all other elevations showed improvement over this period.
