Hong Kong-based Shangri La Hotels and Resorts has expressed interest to expand its investments in Sri Lanka, a Finance Ministry statement said.
This was revealed during a meeting Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake held with Shangri La Vice Chairman Madhu Rao at the Finance Ministry, the statement added.
Among the key issues of the discussion were the ongoing construction activities of the two hotels of the Shangri La in the country.
Sources said the company may be looking to invest in a third hotel property in the country.
Shangri La is building two luxury hotels – one in Colombo’s Galle Face promenade and another in Hambantota, which is scheduled to open June this year.
The hotel in Colombo is expected to open its doors for business in the second quarter of 2017.
The company is believed to have invested US $ 2 billion in the two projects.
