Rotary District Governor Sri Lanka George Jesuthasan, exchanging the MOU with Charles Tilly, Chief Executive of CIMA
CIMA and Rotary Sri Lanka & Maldives signed an MOU this week to allow entry for deserving students into the accountancy body’s
professional examinations.
This Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between CIMA and Rotary Sri Lanka is the first of its kind to take place between an international professional body and an international voluntary service organization.
The purpose of this MOU is to provide CIMA to selected batches of students that are being sponsored for professional studies by Rotary District 3220 and the children of Rotarians at a special pricing offered at the point of registering with CIMA, also waiving off the first year student subscription fee. Rotary will in turn appoint a designated official to liaise with CIMA in the process of selecting the batches of students.
Emphasizing the importance of the collaboration, Charles Tilly Chief Executive of CIMA stated, “We are pleased with the arrangement we have entered into with Rotary. It provides us to open up an opportunity for deserving students selected by Rotary to pursue a qualification that is globally recognized. This is also in line with the vision of CIMA which is supporting global mobility of its qualification with tie-ups such as these with recognized associations in the world. At the same time the MOU also reflects the growing recognition and acceptance of
our qualification”.
District Governor for the Rotary District in Sri Lanka George Jesuthasan added to these comments by saying, “Management accountancy is a truly global profession today. This important collaboration with CIMA builds on our project in Sri Lanka to offer quality education to deserving students and to develop them as global business leaders of the future.”
Also commenting on the MOU Myriam Madden President of CIMA said, “The ultimate objective of any professional educational body is to deliver human talent that will serve the respective country. In a global playing field, if we do not provide our youth with global skills, we will fail. In this context, we are grateful to an opportunity such as this being provided to us by Rotary. This MOU will pave the way for the selected students to benefit immensely where their opportunities for career development would increase“. Mr. Bradley Emerson, the Regional Director for Middle East, South Asia & North Africa of CIMA mentioned, “We are happy to be part of Rotary Sri Lanka’s mission, helping to give a chance to deserving students in our country to excel in their professional life. We look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with Rotary.”
This venture is the first step taken as a part of Rotary Sri Lanka’s initiative to offer opportunities to deserving students in the country to harness their talents and to help transform their abilities to be on par with the requirements of the global
employment market.
