The Foundation of Goodness, a social service organisation, donated a ‘Propre’ reverse osmosis (RO) water purification system machine with a capacity of purifying 5,000 litres of water per day, to the far-flung, poor village of Weweldigiliya in Mihintale, Anuradhapura, recently.

ABC Trade and Investments Limited has introduced this  RO water purification system  named ‘Propre’, which is capable of removing 99 percent of impurities in water such as arsenic, cadmium, hardness, heavy metals, fluoride, virus, bacteria, precipitates, unpleasant taste and smell and chlorine used for drinking and cooking purposes.

The ‘Propre’ RO system, manufactured in the United States of America under state-of-the-art technology, is an innovative product widely used worldwide for purifying water for drinking and cooking purposes. This modern system can be described as a strainer which eliminates harmful chemicals found in water.

According to the World Health Organisation, the main identified cause for Rajarata kidney disease, which is fast spreading in the North Central and Uva Provinces, is heavy metals such as arsenic and cadmium being ingested with drinking and cooking water. Furthermore, drinking hard water causes stoppage of kidneys, increases kidney diseases, causes the formation of kidney and urinary tract stones and discoloration of teeth.
