Railway quarters completed under Slave Island Redevelopment Program (Stage II) opens

The ceremonial opening and handing over of keys to the residents of the railway quarters Block A&B took place on 29th of October at Justice Akbar Mawatha, Colombo 02. 

The “Redevelopment Program Phase II’ handing over ceremony was graced by Minister of Transport & Aviation Nimal Siripala De Silva, Minister of Megapolis & Western Decelopment Champika Ranawaka, Pakistan High Commissioner Maj Gen (R) Syed Shakeel Hussain, Deputy Minister Megapolis Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Deputy Minister of Transport Hon Ashoka Abeysinghe, UDA Chairman Ranjith Fernando, Managing Director Imperial Builders Naveed Lakhani and several other dignitaries.

The Minister of Transport extended his fullest support to Imperial Builders and commended the dedication by Imperial Builders towards completing Phase II and handing over the apartments block A&B on time to deserving railway employees. 

The UDA Chairman Ranjith Fernando stressed on the importance of this project and the close ties between the Pakistan and Sri Lankan government and offered the UDAs fullest support towards the completion of the total project which includes Destiny, Destiny II and the remaining Block C&D of the redevelopment program. 

Naveed Lakhani thanked the UDA for the collaborative effort in order to complete Block A&B and assured the gathering that Block C&D which is being currently developed for 118 families who were residents of the area before will be ready by 2016. 

In collaboration with the UDA - Imperial Builders commenced work on a Unique comprehensive plan in 2012, “Slave Island Station Passage Redevelopment Programme Phase II”. 

The mutual motive behind is to beautify the skyline of Colombo and the surrounding area. This total project is expected to be over a US $ 120 million investment with a total extent of 525 perch of land in the heart of Colombo to be re-developed. 

Based on Slave Island, a prime commercial area of Colombo, the Phase-I of this project is set to change lives and lifestyles of the former dwellers on the land by developing them modified apartments with much better living features compared to their past living standards. For this purpose Imperial Builders (Pvt) Ltd has commenced construction of modern apartments Block C&D. 

The relocation will be laid on the demarcated Railway Land where 2 individual blocks of multiple G+12 stories will be constructed with all facilities.
Construction commenced on the relocation project in January 2013. Block A&B are complete and pilling & floor 2 for the slave island resident’s apartments Block C&D are complete currently with construction of these 2 buildings scheduled to complete by August 2016. 

Imperial Builders Pvt Ltd has promised the Slave Island Dwellers and Railway Authority families that they will get the best houses and not anything ordinary and have hired the best architects, engineers, and consultants to work on this development so that in every aspect quality is assured. Managing Director Naveed Lakhani added “we are on schedule to complete their housing in record time and ensure their transition is smooth, the residents of Slave Island are so valuable to the fabric of business in Colombo which is why we are not displacing them from where they are currently living, we aim to set the benchmark and be the model on which future developments take place in this country when dealing with communities. A “people first” approach is always a winning model to work on”. 

Work on the Destiny Mall & Residency is currently in progress and is scheduled to complete in 2017. The Destiny Mall & Residency developed by Imperial Builders commenced construction in May 2013. 206 luxury apartments are being built on 1 acre property at the corner of Sir Justice Akbar Mawatha & R.A De Mel Mawatha, Colombo 02. The development is set to transform the area with its ultra modern luxury G+44 storey twin tower design which consists of a shopping promenade and a twin apartment complex. The Destiny II which was recently launched is set to commence construction in January 2016 and offers investors the luxury of owning their own apartment starting at Rs.7.2 Million for a  1 bed unit. Destiny II is scheduled to complete construction by December 2019.
