Sri Lanka’s struggling tourism industry will receive some support with the launch of the ‘Buy a Meal’ initiative that will take place this month.
The British and European Chamber of Commerce have come together to partner for the ‘Buy a Meal’ effort that is scheduled to take place in 19 August, which is also marked as a day of support for hospitality and tourism.
Facilitated by the European Chamber of Commerce (ECCSL) and Council for Business with Britain (CBB), in partnership with Happening Colombo by Point to Point Consulting, the event is about purchasing a meal to support the industry.
“This can be any meal or snack from any restaurant, hotel, café, bakery or home bakery and can be dine-in, for takeaway or for delivery,” said Dougie Douglas of Happening Colombo.
“Ordering a meal for that day will support the restaurant, the waiters or delivery people, and their suppliers. It is recommended that the meals be ordered a few days in advance, so that the restaurants can plan for the expected increase in demand,” said Douglas in a virtual press briefing today.
Organizers of the initiative urge those who can, including companies, to order a meal and post on social media pictures with the hashtag #EveryMealHelps.
