Even though the government has so far made no decision to seek International Monetary Fund (IMF) assistance, it has appointed dedicated ministers to interact closely with international donor countries and agencies.
Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa yesterday a minister dedicated to each donor country and organization, such as the IMF, Asian Development Bank and the World Bank, would be appointed so that the agencies will be liaised with on a regular basis to seek solutions for the country’s ongoing economic problems.
Further, while the government and the Central Bank have up to now maintained that there is no need to seek an IMF bailout, Rajapaksa said they would hold discussions with the agency.
