Deputy Governors Weerasinghe and Karunaratne retire

Deputy Governors Dr.Nandalal Weerasinghe and H.A. Karunaratne have retired from the Central Bank.

Senior Deputy Governor Dr.Weerasinghe had taken the three-month leave prior to retirement, along with the 15-day vacation leave, which commenced from September 25 and Deputy Governor Karunaratne had taken the 3-month prior to retirement leave from September 5.

Dr.Weerasinghe and Karunaratne were the two most senior officials at the Central Bank. Dr.Weerasinghe was appointed a Deputy Governor in 2011 and Karunaratne in 2018.

The Central Bank is yet to announce replacements for Weerasinghe and Karunaratne and Mirror Business learns that applications are yet to be called for the appointments.

K.M.M Siriwardena is the only serving Deputy Governor as of now, according to the Central Bank’s official website.

The other Deputy Governor, S.R. Atygalle, who is to the Treasury and the Finance Ministry,  serves as the Secretary to the Finance Ministry and Treasury.
