Economic Council to be assisted by 14–member advisory committee



The newly appointed 11-member Economic Council has been given a 14-member advisory committee for assistance.

The advisory committee comprises private sector business leaders, chamber heads, and economists.

The members of the advisory committee are; Dhammika PereraKrishan BalendranAshroff OmarProf. Shirantha Heenkenda, Dr.Dushni WeerakoonS. WenganadanDr. Hans WijesuriyaRanjit PageVish GovindasamySuresh de MelPrabash SubasinghaDuminda HalangamuwaSujeewa Mudalige, and Prof. H.D. Karunaratne.

The establishment of the Economic Council, chaired by President Rajapaksa, was approved by the Cabinet last week.

The council will convene weekly and will operate with the objective of finding solutions to the current economic crisis faced by the country. 

Focus areas include overall management of the national economy, behavior of the economy after its impact from the pandemic, economic restructuring, and major development projects that affect economic and financial policies.
