Government to introduce e-procurement from May

State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya yesterday said from May 1 procurement activities with a value of

more than Rs.200 million will be carried out only through the e-procurement process.
He stated this while speaking at a press conference held in Ruwanwella area yesterday.


The minister mentioned that circular No. 08/2019 (1) on 19th of April has given instructions and this programme will be implemented to improve transparency, responsibility and efficiency.
The minister said that the programme will be implemented in all cabinet ministries from May 2023, and by the year 2025, the procurement processes of all government and semi-government institutions will be done only through the electronic government procurement system (e-GP).


The minister also mentioned that through this programme, it will be possible to build an efficient government service free of waste and corruption in the future.
The minister said that the European Union and the World Bank are also supporting the programme, and the agreement for that will be signed in May.
