As Sri Lankan students studying overseas are struggling to find their tuition fees amid the on-going forex crisis in the country, the government seeks multi-party consensus in setting up private universities in the country.
The Minister of Transport and Highways and Minister of Mass Media, Bandula Gunawardena noted that over 300,000 students have left the county to continue their higher studies at foreign institutions with an estimated cost of US$ 2 billion per annum.
Due to the prevailing foreign exchange crisis in the country, many of these students who are already overseas are struggling to pay for their tuition fees and meet other expenses.
Hence, the Minister noted that the government plans to set up foreign universities inside the country with the agreement of other political parties.
