Indian multinational information technology services, HCL Tech, which has centers across the world, including Sri Lanka, has been accused by American think-tank Economic Policy Institute (EPI) of wage theft in the US.
The EPI claimed that based on an analysis of an internal HCL document, it is found that the entity was underpaying thousands of skilled migrants on H-1B visas.
The H-1B program is a temporary work visa scheme that allows US companies to recruit and hire college-educated migrant workers.
An EPI report that is making rounds highlighted that the Noida-based IT firm paid its H-1B workers lower wages to the tune of US$ 95 million compared to their US peers.
