A ceremony to award 500 scholarships to study Information Technology at a Philippine State University was held today with the participation of Sports and Youth Minister Roshan Ranasinghe and Rotary International President Jennifer Jones. The event was held at the Ministry of Sports this afternoon with the participation National Youth Services Council President Dr. Thiran De Silva and several other dignitaries.

Never know the Philippines is an IT hub. It a lot better to go to India to improve IT skills.

India exports 200 billion usd worth of software and hardware products per year. Still some on Sri lanka make joke of poverty and organ stealing etc..that's fine if you Sri lankans wants to look at FEW rotten events, that's fine. Nothing for India to loose. Looser are pessimist. Enjoy pessimism.

Scholarships should be valuable opportunities but there there is no value in Phil degrees or knowledge. I know even their maids coming to Arab countries have degrees.

This is definitely another huge 'SCAM'. Philippines never has been an IT 'hub'. Somewhere somehow several people involved in this 'scam' will receive billions of Rs OR in US$ I feel. Not only is this very highly suspicious, our Sinhala Buddhist students will be subject to illicit proselytisation and will become Christian in return!! Such untold corruption! India would have been a far, FAR better option as their IIT is world famous and extremely reputable all over the world. This is definitely totally suspicious. MM

Philippines is not an IT hub. India is, and our close neighbour. Already 10,000 qualified IT professionals have left the island, most with their families. Of the 500 how many will return?

Philippines is like Sri Lanka…exporting mainly housemaids to Middle East. What IT education that one can do in Phillipines that cannot be offered in Sri Lanka. Waste of time.
