DS removed the voting rights of upcountry Tamils, after pressure from Jaffna Tamils. The Indians then forced for the proper upcountry citizens to get voting rights, and then later when their army was in Jaffna put in the controversial and unpopular 13 amendment to the Constitution.

UK was divorcing itself Sri Lanka, India and Pakistan as colonies all around the same time, so anyway we get independence if for DS or not.
