All this pomp and pageant to appease the foolish soldiers, by the higher echelon military leaders. These military leaders protect the corrupt leaders of Srilanka and while enriching themselves for the service rendered. The common soldiers do the dirty work and lament in poverty.

They can make nice parades, but that's about it. An army of 350,000 soldiers that the country doesn't need. Except the crookrd and corrupt politicians need them for their protection, to militarize the country and to beat up the populace. For a case of defense, the soldiers are far too badly trained and their equipment is junk suitable for a museum (Why do you think the UN uses Sri Lankan soldiers only for logistical purposes and not for combat purposes?!). By the way. What were the awards for gallantry for? Sharpen a pencil without hurting themself? Reduce the army to 50,000 soldiers, which is more than enough and spend the saved money for the good of the people.

Subsequent SL Govts. are famous for entertainments and Damasas keeping the corrupt politicians in forefront whilst suffering masses have to suffer through out out lifetime.Millions of poor people are living with four walled sinco sheets,no proper drinking water and sanitary facilities. We have seen politicians come with ordinary houses within a couple of years living in palaces

It’s important to hold victory parades and army celebrations no matter how hard it’s going to be. Firstly, we have to keep the army happy, after all they destroyed LTTE and the Tamil struggle for independence with it. Secondly, it’s the single biggest factor to keep Sinhala Buddhists together. Why not?
