Congratulations to the new Commandos. And of course, to their proud mothers. Hopefully, these Commandos won’t be used by the government to quash the protests and rather deal with what they were trained for.

In every other country, special forces and commandos are a covert bunch of elite professionals who get the job done silently. They remain anonymous and secret. For instance if one looks at Israeli special forces, not one big is known about them and those various top tier units. None of this bragging about, pomp and pageantry as that’s the point of it all. It’s supposed to be covert and unknown. Here in SL this is all but a big show. They have even named these units in public. “Smart” bunch. Utter drama. If they are elite units, keep them secret. No photos, no parades, no show, none of this fannying about for fame and game. Keep the military spending up too, in a bankrupt state. How contradictory.

Yes, instead of training these young men to work productively, and provide employment down south, recruit them to the armed forces and then largely sent them to the Tamil/Tamil-speaking north and east to occupy and steal the lands and livelihoods of the local Tamil/Tamil-speaking population and prevent them from advancing and learning a trade livelihood. Also, need all these skills to erect lots of Buddhist temples and Buddha statues in these areas and to help and support the so-called Archeological department to claim ancient Hindu religious sites as Buddhist and convert them. No wonder the country is bankrupt.
