Parents are at Fault Friday, 03 May 2024 09:56 PM
Stupidity coming from future doctors - period. Why are taxpayers money used to educate these idiots. There should be a law banning these students participating in protest if they are being paid by taxpayers. If they are funding the studies on their own account, do whatever they want within the legal frame. Parents are at fault for not disciplining them and this virus will spread as seen in some America and European countries universities currently.

Out of these comments the idiot is exposed as he does not know that the tax payers money wasted by the government by spending 10 M per local government area, etc.

Not this time brother. Medical students took free education for granted for decades. First of all everybody should understand there's nothing free in this word. The real question is who's going to pay. If government medical students think they're getting this mbbs degree for free, they must be sent to a mental asylum. Taxpayers of this country are paying for their degrees. So they must be grateful. Instead of wasting taxpayers money by protesting here and there, they must study hard to pass the exams asap. Also anyone who has obtained mbbs degree from free education must pay back the cost to the government so the taxpayers can have the benefits. Also free education made-doctor migrating to another country must pay the full degree fees and other payments before leaving the country.

JVP (now NPP) and FSP are Silent Killers who also destroy SL Friday, 03 May 2024 06:43 PM
The selfish nature of our so called "educated" youth!
In Sri Lanka out of approx 700,000 students who sit for Ordinary Level exam about 300,000 only end up sitting for Advanced Level exam and of them only 41,000 get free govt universities. Of these 41,000 only a very small percentage are medical students. After getting selected them objecting to the setting up of private medical colleges so that more students will have university education is damned outright selfishness. Agitating for the minimum quality standards and accreditation to be maintained at private universities would be a valid demand but certainly not the selfish call for abolishing the initiative to set up private universities. Stupid lopsided politics of socialist political parties have warped these young minds.

This should have implemented many years ago. Whole world is moving forward but we are going back!

Sri Lankan certain medical practitioners and students have sticked to a traditional mindset and denied to initiate private medical camps, although they have spent thousands of dollars for their children to get medical education overseas. Government offers free medical education for qualified students as same as private campuses also do so. What's wrong with this? A few people are spreading rumours about the KDU medical student enrollments and degree program to create the public negativity so the necessary steps should be taken to mitigate these protests and disinformation.

JVP at it again....there will be more when we get close to elections! That's the only way for the reds to win elections! Throw mud at opponents and get the youth on to the streets!

No More Protest Soon Friday, 03 May 2024 11:05 PM
Once NPP takes over, no more Protest as everyone will be bz getting the country back on track. Currently no respect of the politicians in power as most are corrupt and unworthy. That’s why students and the general public despises these goons running the country.

Get used to it. This is what you will be experiencing on a regular basis if the NPP are elected to run this already broken country. Protests, strikes, and riots. Welcome to the rebadged JVP.

Very good. These are the people denying the fundamental rights of other children. Using the taxpayer's money for free education and denying the same education rights of taxpayers.

Doctors in High Demand Around The World Saturday, 04 May 2024 11:51 AM
Exactly. Authorities should implement proficiency test / exams for those taking from private or overseas medical courses. Collect reasonable fees for the first few years will also be beneficial as only those serious will be allowed to practice. So the local graduates can’t complain these private or overseas students got it ez to find jobs in SL. Actual fact, these students will be in high demand overseas as the world population is ageing at a very fast pace in most countries.

But, no fundamental right case, anytime.

Nimal Saturday, 04 May 2024 07:29 AM
This is the way this wretched regime will be dispersed in the near future. Whether the protest is justified or not is a different matter. The way the educated youth, who are meking a peaceful protest are treated by a wretched government is heinous.
00
Jeanne Saturday, 04 May 2024 04:24 PM
@Nimal : You've got to be joking! This is how the wretched new regime of NPP will look like if people are STUPID enough to vote them in. What are these useless students protesting about? They don't pay one cent for their education. They should be grateful - not disruptive. Morons.

I am wondering how rich the pro-PMC fan club is. I doubt whether the majority of its members can afford the LKR 12 million tuition cost. But their comments indicate that they do have a dream of making their half-educated daughters and sons ducks (but not doctors) via PMCs.

European system Saturday, 04 May 2024 08:49 AM
Both my siblings are living in europe(England and Denmark). They have an exam test before selecting to enrol a student to medical faculty. Those who score highest are only allowed to enter the medical stream to study as a doctor. Others who are unable if they really really keen can enter only by collecting merits by doing some more degrees, phd etc. So in developed countries also the highest scoring students are selected to make them doctors because unlike any other job these people have to deal with lives of humans, not dogs or buffaloes

Doctors and medical students should give the same treatment to all Police Officers from the IGP downwards by refusing to treat them. They want to kill the upcoming Doctors. Give them the same treatment

Not only doctors. Others, too where applicable.

Looks like some not ‘so intelligent’ people who are writing in support of PMC s have dreams of making their ‘not so intelligent’ siblings future doctors.
Study the history of Ragama and Malambe …
The sensible people of this country will support this brilliant young men and women who are courageously fighting against ‘idiots’with money becoming doctors.

A former University Academic who has seen the world Saturday, 04 May 2024 06:07 PM
First thing that must happen is the abolishing of the district quota for University admission. There is absolutely no justification for this now! There are many students from populous districts such as Colombo, Kurunegala, Gampaha, Kandy, Jaffna, etc, out there who have got better marks than those enter the medical school on district basis. These students who missed out by a few marks are no less intelligent than those who crept in through the district basis. That is why the establishment of PMCs should have happened a long time ago! Parents of all these students are not rich! They sell of hock their property to give their children a meaningful education! A loan scheme needs to be established give bona fide students loans to cover their education. This scheme is already their for private universities offering non-medical programmes!

Newton's thirty third law of human needs Saturday, 04 May 2024 06:55 PM
Peaceful protests are the fundamental rights of every citizen whether they are doctors, executives or bus drivers. There will be no need for protests if the needs of every citizen is met. I'm a bus driver in a first world country and right now I'm sipping an expensive whiskey while writing this message. In Sri Lanka I won't even be able to afford a glass of Necto if I was an effing bus driver. Naturally, I don't see the need to protest as my needs and my family's needs are met. This is a simple equation that Sri Lankans fail to grasp!
