If the elephants had turned back in anger, we would have witnessed a mahout race as well.

How horribly cruel to treat a majestic creature in such a manner just for a fleeting few minutes of entertainment. We as a nation need to move past these cruel archaic treatment of animals for our amusement and tradition. The only tradition we must carry forward for our future generations should be kindness and fair treatment towards all living beings.

Is this animal used to these races with so much of torture? Hasn't it born in the jungle and deserve a life in the jungle? What pleasure do these people get by making him run in a race with so much of inhuman and cruel treatment? Isn't this animal abuse? Where are the people who cry day and night for animal rights?

Where are the jokes in the hill in yellow fancy dress? Is this our culture? If so we need to change fast. The same can be seen at the Dehiwala Zoo. The elephants are chained from the front leg and the hind leg. They can hardly move. The chained are loosened for them to have some water. What a shame. Soon we may have to visit a Zoo in UK, US, Japan or Australia to see elephants. There was a joker politician who wanted to sell elephants overseas. That was enough.
