Comments - Floods in Gampaha...
Man man disaster Sunday, 13 October 2024 05:13 PM
Back in the day we never heard areas of Gampaha going under water. This is all man made due to poor urban planning. But people will continue to say it rained a lot and that's why it got flooded.

At most instances it is people or authorities fault. Building on traditional controlled flow ponding areas. Greed and political influence. Hope a better bunch of engineers will come along to better plan the low lying areas for storm water water to accumulate before draining on to tributaries to control this unnecessary suffering and financial losses. There is no practical way to drain storm water without ponding it for controlled flow. Take the example of The Nile river. Only practical method is to build on stilts. Manaus in Brazil is an example as many other places. Expensive for masonry construction.

Check whether itis due to the Kandy Expressway. Has the RDA provided necessary drainage and maintenance for all the roads constructed by them.
