A handful of single issue people may protest like in any other country. Some protests are organized by political opposition and defeated candidates. GOSL should follow the justified path chosen for the progress of the entire country. These people have no idea from where the money is found for all social programs. They could ask. Just ignore.

Free Education: A New Approach Free education should be reconsidered. Unlike some countries where education is free, many nations adopt alternative systems that instil a sense of responsibility in students. While this may be debatable, my suggestion is to replace free education with an interest-free loan system secured with sureties. Under this system, students would bear some responsibility for their education, motivating them to take their studies more seriously. Repayment would begin only after they secure employment, with deductions made from their income at a rate proportional to their earnings. This approach ensures fairness and reduces the likelihood of students misusing their time, such as engaging in unproductive activities that disrupt public order. It balances the need for access to education with personal accountability, creating a more disciplined and goal-oriented student population.

If these are educated people or in the process of being educated, then, the system is failing badly. I also note: all the banners are in Sinhala; which limits their future employment prospects. There has to be a top class English medium "pipeline" reintroduced in all schools.

I think one is clear. Mahapola scholarship eligibility should be tightened and, of course, the allowance should be increased. It is very expensive things in SL. Secondly, just like in Australia, there should be a higher education loan scheme (cost subsidised) for university students (for them to accumulate a debt) and when they get a job, the loan should be recovered via the tax system (not by banks). Well, to start with they should be taught job related subjects in universities, not useless subjects like Buddhist Civilisation, ancient history, or languages which will not lead to any jobs. A complete revamp of SL education system is a must. NPP with its union affiliations, is unlikely to do it. That revamping should also include clamping down on tuitions. Tuition masters are currently running the whole education system, not schools.
