The items siezed during two separate raids were displayed to the media at the Grayline Container Yard in Grandpass. A 20-foot container with a massive consignment of cigarettes worth over Rs. 470 million was seized by Customs Central Intelligence Directorate (CID) officials.

Meanwhile, a 40-foot container with a large stock of Karunka (dried areca nut) meant for transshipment, worth over Rs. 27 million which had arrived in the Colombo Port from Malaysia in June this year, was siezed at the Grayline Container Yard. Pix by Nimalsiri Edirisinghe

Wonder who the consignee/notify party was on this shipment! Why don't the Customs put their names out and let it be know to the general public.

European ports 10 to 15 containers are been intercepted daily for importing contra band items . I hardly see whole dept is flock at the container yard to see the drama and to pose for the photos. Grow up Sri Lanka customs. If such a box is found bring the culprits to the books.
