Indians have celebrated Diwali as earthen oil lamps and dazzling lights lit up homes and streets across the country to mark the Hindu festival that symbolises the victory of light over darkness. Diwali, which is a national holiday across India, is typically celebrated by socialising and exchanging gifts with family and friends. Many light earthen oil lamps or candles and fireworks are set off as part of the celebrations. (Daily Mail)

Please think about the environment and the Delhi is the most polluted city in the world ..all this celebrations contribute to this .. Do your rituals in an environmentally friendly way.. Don't destroy environment in the name of religion or culture

It is not rituals that are causing extra pollution in Delhi for a day or two but the bursting of crackers and fireworks. Delhi is polluted more for other reasons like factory and motor vehicle emissions and stubble burning in neighbouring Punjab.

Go an tell this to Sinhalese who commence by polluting the sound level at 3.30am in the morning with loudspeakers. See how all the different communities Sikh, Buddhists, Muslims, Jains gather to celebrate Diwali not as a Hindu Celebration but as a common celebration of Light over Darkness. Not at all like Sinhalese Buddhists who just born biggots.
