The first-day cover and stamp were issued to mark the International Year of Millets 2023. The launching ceremony was held at the Head Office of the Department of Post. The event was held under the patronage of Mass Media State Minister Shantha Bandara.

Missed opportunity? Minister Shantha Bandara could have used this chance to educate people about Sri Lankan traditional millets while adding a Sri Lankan twist. He should have organized a KURAKKAN DANSAL, simultaneously sharing the 1000-year-old grain, KURAKKAN, with the world through stamps! Hopefully, next time, they won't miss the opportunity to promote KURAKKAN to the world.
