Scaring Investors Away by Protesting Often Thursday, 16 May 2024 10:30 PM
Must be a proud moment for them and families (press coverage and photos) to protest. If this goes on, where’s the productive of these people. Need to work hard and diligently to have stability and prosperity for the country. If not investors will bypass SL and look elsewhere like in Vietnam, Cambodia etc.

This iconic building was commissioned in 1959/1960. It was the brain child of then Director of Irrigation Silva Gunasekara who was instrument in constructing circuit bungalows for the inspecting officers in remote regions of the country. In all this building has faithfully served many a generation of Engineers, Technicians for over six and a half decades.
Surely, the ministry of foreign affairs can either construct one to suit their needs in perhaps the Port City OR the Lotus Tower or at Mattalla Air Port instead of robbing someone else's property.

Protests for a damn building! These jokers, in my opinion, would have believed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was a foreign institution. I don't see the connection between occupying the building and safeguarding the country's water resources. Your offices should be in agricultural regions rather than in the cozy center of Colombo if you truly wish to work for the farmers.

Struggle to protect a building Friday, 17 May 2024 07:12 AM
Is this a protest to protect their building at Bullers Road? The placards they carry gives the impression that department is being hijacked!

struggle, your opinion seems a protection, not protest. Maybe someone has their eyes on this property and soon the dept will be transferred to a remote area and the property sold (watch out my assumption may become a reality).

NPP working overtime to get people to stop working and get on the streets. It's what they are best at.

If SL starts dishing out more and more money for these already heavily bloated public service, it will end in a more terrible and 'never to be recovered' state. Dishing out more and more money to overstaffed institutions and not clamping down on corruption will fuel further inflation and even more salary demands. A vicious cycle indeed. First lesson: Don't recruit people to already overstaffed public service.

This building is a credit to Mr. A.E.C.De. S. Gunasekera, a former Director who brought the Department to fame and respected by the London Institution of Civil Engineers. It is a sacred building to every Irrigation officer and must not be taken over as we know the history.

Your Officials are fortunate that Mr, Clarence de Silva Gunasekera is not among the living.

All the government department belongs to Treasury. They have the depending on the requirements buildings can be changed.
However for corporations their properties cannot be taken by other departments or corporations. These are public enterprises expected to run on their own fundings.

While agreeing that this building justly belongs to the Department of Irrigation, a very important question that has to be asked is, with all the resources at their disposal, what do these officials deliver?

They should all be doing home gardening. Not be wasting time at a prime location office!

This building is too old the Irrigation Engineers must buil one and occupy the new building. Engineers need modern facility. The foreign minister had only the discarded arts or commerce graduate so they can occupy any building.
