When the Europeans invaded Sri Lanka they didn’t have Airforces to parachute the soldiers, the soldiers had to be brought in through the coast and thus the costal villages bore the brunt of the brutal invasion attacks . In this process thousands of Sri Lankan civilians were butchered by the European soldiers . But once the villages were completely taken over, the Christian Missionaries landed on these villages and gradually converted the entire villagers to Christianity. The descendants of these converted costal villagers, who never saw the barbarism suffered by their ancestors , enjoyed the benefits provided by the invaders and became very loyal Christians. That is why we have so many costal areas in Sri Lanka that are predominantly Christian.
