curse come for the Maligawa getting cheap electricity Sunday, 25 December 2022 11:32 AM
This is the curse come for the Maligawa getting cheap electricity. These calamities will continue to happen while the Maligawa weighs down on the people.

This is absurd and utterly reprehensible reasoning !

Please elaborate so readers outside Kandy can understand what is going on.

Let the statement you have made, in turn, be a curse for you! The issue here is not about religious institutions getting electricity at subsidised rates but illegal constructions, poor maintenance of drainage systems, etc. People like you, who are still in the medieval age, are the real curse of this world!!!

Maybe there is some truth to it Sunday, 25 December 2022 12:49 PM
Biggest problem in our nation is too many older, or middle aged people agreeing with religious groups who keep our country in the medieval ages.

Now flood come to Kandy as well ...it is very strange to see this flood in hill side like Kandy ....what is wrong with our drainage systems ...not enough paths were made for water to run and people are blocking water paths and buildings are build and now more roads are built and yet we did not give enough space for water to run ..water is accumulated ...our engineers should come up with a system to give away a good exit for water in each town in Sri Lanka .. Politics and money at work that is what all this .. don't blame nature but blame yourself

Due to the illegal constructions entire Kandy road network as well as the drains had been blocked for a considerable time period. If the intensity of the rain is high the some areas of the city limits are believed to be inundated with water. Therefore the authorities concerned should pay their attention to remove the illegal constructions in order to minimise the floods

I have never seen my home town Kandy under water like this in my while life! As Lan pointed out here, they build and build in every nook and corner to the last inch with no proper avenue for drainage. They get easily clogged up due to tons of garbage discarded inconsiderately. Kandy is one town where town planning has gone to the dogs.

Take responslblity the needing not waste to upgrade home town things Sunday, 25 December 2022 01:00 PM
The railway station being flooded is of little concern to government. There is problem with people not even getting food. It is the uncaring like yourselves who want money for building works, to make things ornate and elaborate, rather than purely functional that has ruined the nation. Oh my home town, oh my home town, you are the kind who would feed dogs rather than help a lost and hungry child so as to avoid real responsibility.

If we don't protect this beautiful town in the centre of our country...who will protect it ?? It is responsible duty of each person in Sri Lanka to protect this country from natural disasters like this ( man made disaster) I was there in August and it is one of beautiful town in Sri Lanka ...each one of us must protect people in Kandy must do all what they could do to protect it ... don't build any illegal building and do not damage your land at all.. don't dig the ground for unnecessary things ...get professional advice before build anything. Sorry to say this government is not strict with law breakers on this issue ?

Nothing can be done do not bark up wrong tree again Sunday, 25 December 2022 12:55 PM
If all people/humans were to vacate Kandy, after a while the trees and nature would get back in, and all these terrible man made problems would be gone. However, us humans control the land, and there is no such this as natrual nature in Sri Lanka. Everything is corrupted in someway by people.

@Sarath s, @warren: While it seems silly about the curse man's comment, how about the fact that if the dues were collected from the religious places at same prices for other high electricity users, the government wouldn't have to subside CEB as much? From the tax revenue it gets the government would be better able to commission capital works like improved drainage for vulnerable government owned public places like the railway station.

Kandy MC and UDA are another two useless organisations. The politicians and planners in these organisations have ruined the Kandy within last 30 years.

Even if we don’t want to admit, it’s a shame to allow religious institutions to get free electricity at poor people’s expense. That’s for sure is a curse.

A disgrace to Sri Lankan water management/ irrigation departments. Sadly the standards are dropping. This is due to people in the top are severely corrupt. No ethnic reconciliation. What can we expect?
