Following a UN resolution, the UN peacekeeping mission in Mali will end at the end of the year! In view of the failure of this mission and taking into account the fact that the clique of officers in charge of the country, who are counting on Prigozhin's Wagner group, one wonders what justifies sending Sri Lankan soldiers to this country at this point in time !??? It can be assumed that sending the soldiers to Mali will entail considerable costs for the taxpayers in Sri Lanka!? In addition to the dangers to life and limb of the soldiers, the question must be asked whether, in view of the highly problematic, above all, economic situation in your own country, such a mission still makes any political sense!? Fame and honor can no longer be acquired in Mali and international solidarity has also come to an end!!! Sri Lanka cannot do without money and the suffering people in the country could use any help better! Wrong decision of the Ranil government!?

The UN Security Council terminated the mission (MINUSMA) last Friday. The mission will start the withdrawal process on 1 July and complete its liquidation by the end of this year.
