The six-month-old lion cub, which was rejected by its mother, was named today at an event organized to commemorate the 88th anniversary of the Dehiwala Zoological Department.

The lion cub was named 'Haider' by the Dehiwala Zoological Gardens' Director General, M.S.L.R.D. Marasinghe. 

He mentioned at the event that two children had chosen the name Haider for the cub. The lion cub was born at the Ridiyagama Safari Park.
