Only in North Korea and other such failed countries does the state own 'hotels'. The 'nation' i.e. the government gets revenue from airport charges and taxes on 'hotel' rooms. Also the VAT and other such taxes on everything the tourist purchases whilst in the country.

Every tourist is paying at least $50 for the Sri Lankan visa. Government is also collecting landing tax and fuel tax from the aircrafts. The nation is immensely benefitted from these tourists

Tourists, whether they spend on privately owned hotels, tip a waiter, or pay for a taxi, it's all rupees they exchanged with their currency, that came in to SL.

That is why we need taxes. The hotels will be paying taxes and those who are working on those hotels will also be paying taxes.
