More newborns at Dehiwala zoo

Arabian oryx

A baby Arabian oryx calf and a baby Nilgai were born recently at the Dehiwala National Zoo. The oryx calf was born three weeks before and the baby Nilgai was bron on Valentine's Day. Both the babies are in good health. The Arabian oryx, or white oryx, is a medium-sized antelope with a distinct shoulder hump, long, straight horns, and a tufted tail. It is a bovid, and the smallest member of the genus Oryx, native to the desert and steppe areas of the Arabian Peninsula.

The Nilgai is the largest Asian antelope and is ubiquitous across the northern Indian subcontinent. Pix by Kushan Pathiraja
