The landfill can only be kept and even accumulated if several piers are built into the sea vertical to the coast line. On the location where the Mt Lavinia Hotel is situated there is a small land outcrop extending into the sea. During the South West Monsoon the sea water apprently flows northwards parralel to the beach and behind the land outcrop creates a small bay and excavates/washes away the sand. If there are piers that wont happen and sand will accumulate between the piers ..

Thsi only prove how backwards we are in thinking. Somebody should openly talk about the port city after effects , even if we have disband the projetc. We should have created a port city about 10 to 15 kms away from the island. Later build a nice bride or run a good boat service. FOOLS FOOLS

Even though I agree that this is a waste of money(mt.lav beach) , the calido beach fill up in kalutara was essential !(covered by the same project as well as several other beaches) Some local politician has removed the naturally exciting sand bank hoping a repeat of the kalutara floods would not happen again . (Which is highly unlikely and extremely idiotic btw ) and during high tide , salt water has seeped in to kalu-ganga threatening the fresh water supply for the entire region . If this beach is covered , then isn't it essential to cover about the other beaches covered in this project? . Not to support the government , but to let the people of Sri Lanka know the status of those beaches and the affect those artificial beaches have on those regions ? .
