Dr. Ajith Mendis assumed office as the new Chairman of the State Pharmaceutical Corporation (SPC) today. He was the former Director General of Health Services and is also an experienced administrator in the field of health. Director General of Health Dr. Asela Gunawardena and a group of officials from the Ministry's medical services were also present at the occasion.

Drug imports are generally approved by the National Formulary Council, consisting over a team of professors of medicine. State Pharmaceutical Corporation is the sole importer of drugs to government hospitals, distribution done by the State Medical Stores, importers awarded items by tender board, a role of business acumen is equally imperative for the head of State Pharmaceutical Corporation.

Why do you appoint Doctors in administrative positions. They should be consulting on technical grounds not waste their expertise in daily operations of administrative nature. In developed countries , the MBAs from other disciplines are appointed in administrative jobs.
