Inland Revenue should request a detailed expenditure statement of the weddings and compare it with the declared income minus living expenses.if there is a material difference, the source of income should have some proof as well. Additionally, there should be some Wedding tax for exorbitantly expensive ceremonies. We are a nation that borrows money from other nations and then spend the money lavishly to maintain some stupid egos and perceived status. Why can't they just invite close family members and have a simple ceremony. Nowadays the weddings are even a financial burden to friends as well .

People get into ridiculous debt to have a showy wedding. They are often still repaying the debt even though the marriage may have ended

It is the common view amongst photographers that by the time the albums are ready the couple has separated, so they charge the full cost upfront. If the trend is that why have all these luxuries at weddings

@TISSA FERNANDO, I mostly disagree with your comments, but there's a small part I agree with. If someone can afford a big wedding, it helps the economy by creating jobs. But when the government gets involved in how we spend our wedding money, it can limit our freedom. Less government often means more freedom. And if someone prefers a small family celebration instead, that's freedom too.

@DD , you have aright to disagree, but my point is that anyone can have any kind of weddings but as long as the money was earned and taxes were paid, if the consumables were imported the cost should be paid in dollars not in rupees, my point is that , you cannot borrow money from other nations to import these non essential items . If you need these you must pay from dollars earned from abroad. Also you cannot do this at the expense of other tax paying people. The economy that is being created with this kind of expenditure is a fake and unsustainable one. You just spend dollars earned by others or loaned by others to import some makeup stuff and apply it for one day. As long as these dollars are earned by you I have nothing to complain.

@ my friend Tissa fernando, Haha! "Mamma No, Pappa No, Appa Kanna Thutu No!" It sounds like we've got quite the dilemma here. Maybe we should consider celebrating our marriage in a temple and offering alms as a way to keep our finances in check while still having a joyous celebration! Who needs an extravagant wedding when we can have a meaningful one with a little twist, right?
