Sadly, these vendors need to realise that for many, their days are numbered - especially if we are serious about environmental protection and the minimal use of plastic. They should be assisted to retrain for other work and supported by grants to begin a new line of employment. Our 'Govt's' short-sighted approach to planning and development will only aggravate decline in the island.

Just these days these products have become slower moving. These stocks will sell through in the coming months. Right now most people are in worry with IMF deal, and the budget action related to it causing price rises like with the VAT. With telecommunications cost also going up, better to stay tight with the spending until confidence rises again. However, of course feel concerned for these small time vendors if they need to keep their shops open, while trade is slow. They still have fixed costs like rent and electricity to pay through.

Most of the stock they have to sell now would have arrived long before the recent ban on imports so they paid a lower price than the current increase they are "lamenting". So what is actually happening is that they are greedily trying to benefit from increasing prices on stock they bought at a far lower price and then complaining when the public just won't have any of their cons! Be ethical with your pricing and the goods will sell, ali baba and send your 40 thieves out to get a real job!

Looks like an environmental nightmare - every item a piece of colour coated plastic. This is symbolic of a country down on its knees which cannot even afford bare necessities. Safety, durability and comfort in these items are out of the question. Not cheap either!

Before Banning any consumer goods which probably imported and marketed, could be an inferior quality, however it has a market, as long indigenously the better replacement is not available, with the far trailing economy, this decision would be unpopular decision. It is better to understand and create back up plans instead of banning consumer goods.
