A consignment of 15,000 Russian-made Sputnik-V vaccines arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport this morning.

State Minister Channa Jayasumana was present at the Airport to officially receive the consignment. The consignment was transported by several vehicles of the State Pharmaceutical Corporation with special refrigeration facilities from the Airport to their storage complex. (Pix by T.K.G. Kapila)

Useless. The government failed to properly manage the stock of AstraZeneca for the second dose. Until they get the assurance of replenishing the stock, they could have paused the programme. What’s the point of having a few thousands of another vaccine. Government must apologise to the general public for their utter mismanagement of the national vaccine programme.

The Russian Sputnik V and the Chinese Sinopharm vaccines are not approved by the WHO and used only in third world countries like Sri Lanka.
