Adams Peak has been visible from Colombo for generations. On a clear cloudless dawn go onto a height and there you see Adams Peak in all its glory.
During the recent curfew period when the pollution levels were at its lowest the majestic mountain stood tall in the Colombo dawn sky clearly visible from any towering height

Bad omen...
If seen from sea, it is good omen for the sailors of that ship. But if seen by many on land, it is bad omen to the inhabitants. That was an old belief from the Portugese times. It is said that Sripada appeared to Portugese soldiers inside the fort in Colombo just before it was attacked by Rajasinghe of Sitawake and again before their surrender to the Dutch. The Dutch too saw it, not from land but from their war ships.

In the early 1950's we used to see Sri Pada from the Polduwa Bridge @ Battaramulla, almost every morning; Of course, it was just a Single Lane Bridge of Wooden Logs. There were only 4 motorised vehicles between Borella and Battarmulla, other than the Dark Blue coloured Omnibuses of a private transport company; All the others were push cycles and bullock carts. There was no Electricity Supply.

I have seen Sri Pada on many occasions. Once as a schoolboy at Royal through the Canteen windows. Later on the upper deck of a CTB double decker bus and much later as an employee of the Colombo Hilton building. Nothing new other than less pollution because of COVID19
