Top Island ranks in GCE A/L

The Examinations Department has announced the top island rankings for various streams.

Leading the list of achievers are:

- Chirath Nirodha of Ananda College, Colombo, who excelled in the Physical Science (Mathematics) stream

- Shehani Navodya of Ginigathhena Central College, who topped the Engineering Technology stream

- Upani Lenora of Sanghamitta Balika Vidyalaya in Galle, who achieved the highest rank in the Science stream

- Thasun Rithmika of Richmond College, Galle, who secured the island first in the Arts stream

- Shehara Sithumini of Panadura Balika Vidyalaya, who achieved the highest rank in the Commerce stream

Congratulations to the 5 top achievers and all others who got good results. I do not know how or why the top National schools in Colombo except Ananda missed out to lead at least in one stream

They are more focussed on relationships building, networking and other life skills, that is why majority who attend these top schools end up successful in their life. Those who are in outstation schools will get to the universities but end up being captured by JVP and then used for their disruptive activities. Then they end with no skills and no job.

It wasn't the case when we went to Ceylon University as it was called then-tops in studies, ,sports, cricket won Sara Trophy, drama Sarathchandra, what happened, politicians interfering in system, sad that students, generations have to suffer as a result leading to social unrest while some are able to send their children abroad or private institutions locally etc and why not if you have the money but for stability and peace in society need a more egalitarian system where merit can thrive but politicians still running the show with their style of egalitarianism and opportunity centered round money, corruption and power.Priorities all wrong interference everywhere no place for educated people only chance T20 or become a politician

Lol. It's sama samaja. Not the JVP. Shows the knowledge in the matter. By the way I went to a gov university. Got recruited even before being graduated. First salary was 95000, 7 years ago. Now I pay more than twice that amount. That's what free gov universities got me. So so bad.

Congratulations ! What about the students who have applied themselves at school level but not had opportunities to be tutored by some of the educationists who know how the papers are set and trains students at various private tution classes with past papers and other new developments in paper setting. These students who have excelled should not be complacent as you are only reproducing what your tutors have taught you and have the ability of retention.. These tutories should be scrapped at any level even visiting homes since teachers are more devoted to these after class sessions as big money is in the offing and instead all teachers should impart the knowledge required during the school sessions as there will be a balanced approach instead of some students who have the funds getting an advantage and these very high flyers cannot fit into the business world!!!!!!!!!

The government should provide opportunities to all students those who achieved minimum marks in the Advanced Level examination to persuade higher studies by establishing Private universities, Technical institutes and Vocal institutes.Higher education to all.

Congratulations. Would be wonderful to see equity in educational funding so those in rural and tea estate schools have a better chance. Teachers must be compelled to teach 100% of the syllabus within government school and not withhold 25% to push children to private classes that the poorest can't afford.

Congratulations. So much salty comments. I wonder from whom. You can take a guess. Apparently I don't have a job too according to the comments since I also went to a government university after passing my A/L, why am paying more than 2 lakhs of income tax for then? By the way my first salary was 95000 that was 7 years ago when I got my first job. That was even before the being passed out. Basically went to work just after my final day in university. Free education is the thing made me who I am today. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to get anywhere.
