International Boxing Association (IBA) President Umar Kremlev, his spouse and the former World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Roy Jones Jr visited the country to support the development of boxing in Sri Lanka. They were warmly welcomed at the Mount Lavinia Hotel. The first international will be hosted in September and October this year. The event was organized by Sri Lanka Boxing Federation President Dian Gomes. Pix by Nimalsiri Edirisinghe

Thank you Russia! What am amazing gesture of friendship, goodwill and sportsmanship. Such kind words and generosity. Hats-off to Dian and his team as well, for all their hard work and dedication to a sport that has little to no State patronage (which in hindsight is a good thing considering the negative effects of political interference and corruption that is involved in other major sports in the country). The best of luck to all and keep up the amazing work!
