On a straight section of track. So the culprit seems to be the coach operated by the private company. These are refurbished and modified old Romanian coaches. A domestic try air conditioner is mounted on the under carriage. An heavy engine generator set powered the air conditioner. Time to the railway got rid of these death traps. There are more of those on the up country line.

No wonder when the whole country is in a derailed state. It is rather pathetic that the railways department is not even able to keep the compartments intact when running and in any other country the minister concerned would have tendered his resignation by now, considering the disastrous state of services under him.

Calistus, our minister will never resign. Please think that this is SRI LANKA. He will put the blame on the grease man for negligence. For minister's clever "handling of the matter," MR will provide him with 3 more additional Pajero vehicles and more police security to protect these vehicles.

Better not comment about the coach of private company without really knowing the technicalities involved. News items of a TV company gave account of eyewitnesses, and one person had taken photos of a track section where the brackets holding the rail to the sleepers rusted through. So the rails have come loose. It could have happened with any train.
