No point installing warning lights or barriers. The drivers in SL will not pay attention to the lights and will go around the barriers. Even in western countries people who are stopped at railway crossings check both sides before crossing the line.

It is estimated that Road Traffic Accidents kill 2,400 Sri Lankans and cost the Country Rs. 30 billion every year (Lanka Business Report - April 2011).

It is easy to blame poor roads, unprotected level crossings, overcrowding of roads etc. for such slaughter, but the truth is that 2,400 or more of your Countrymen are killed by Sri Lankan drivers. Some may be through genuine and unavoidable accidents, but the majority are due to poor driving standards and scant disregards for human life.

As a regular visitor to your beautiful Country, I am always grateful to return from Lanka with life and limb in tact. Until such time as Sri Lanka's drivers understand that their vehicles are deadly weapons and treat their fellow Countrymen with respect, I fear the human carnage will continue, lives will be destroyed, and your Country's economy will continue to suffer.

at tracks where trains rarely run and in open spaces level crossings are not a must, How many people go around the level crossing in busy lines where they are installed? We are talking of a vehicle driver here, not a bullock cart driver. A man who gets behind the wheels needs to be more aleart to the world around them.

The people survived because train was running slow since the station is near...if not we will be seeing a very sad picture here, most drivers dont hear the train because the list to loud music while driving, some drive with headsets too....so its not the fault of the train driver.

We have more experience with that kind of incident which could not realized he important of human life by ministers or railway dept. and the driver who careless about his family as well. So we blamed to each other and live with problem .GOD say please got action against above matter who responsible for human life.

You dont need gates as long as the track is visible and warning signs in place. If the driver is careless these things happen.

There are only a few train on this line. Total negligence by both the railway and the driver of the car.
