Fuel Bowser crashes into transformer

A bowser transporting fuel crashed into an electrical transformer near the Open University this morning. The collision caused serious injuries to the driver and heavy damage to the transformer. The injured driver was admitted to the Kalubowila hospital and is in a critical condition. Mirihana police are conducting further investigations. Pix by Tillekaratne Dissanayake

In most advanced countries commercial trucks are not allowed on busy streets during rush hours. Also, there are strict speed limits for commercial trucks. I noticed that in Sri Lanka none of these regulations are adhered to. Most drivers drive like maniacs without any consideration to other road users. Its time the traffic police take a good look at these violations and enforce existing traffic laws.

These drivers drive their trucks on narrow roads like driving a trishaw, At deadly speed and with no care for others on the roads, glad no one died... The police should restrict these trucks from speeding...

fine example for showing the idiotic nature of sri lankans and their law. heavy vehicles should only travel after 9pm till 6 am in the morning like most other countries do. this accident cause a massive traffic which resulted in many wasted hours in terms of labor, GDP and fuel wastage. but we are living in the miracle of Asia so what more can we expect from this country!!!!!!

What happened to the law imposed on Trailers prohibiting to transport in the morning.Imagine the waste of time and money that occurs owing to traffic jam in the surrounding area.

IT IS NOT ONLY THE TRUCKS, WORST ARE THE PRIVATE BUSES WHO DO NOT CARE AT ALL FOR THE LAW. BECAUSE THESE ARE MOSTLY OWNED BY POLITITIANS AND CONNECTED PEOPLE THE LAW ENFORCEMENT IS VERY WEAK. THE POLICE MUST TAKE STERN ACTION WITHOUT JUST TALKING TO THE MEDIA AND SHOWING OFF.

I witnessed the scene physically. It was terrible. Hope and pray the driver would recover soon. As someone said I too agree that lot of these heavy vehicles running at high speed with no consideration to other road users. High time the authorities take stern action against such drivers

At the same time, a lorry driver should take adequate rest in between his shifts and then time limits to drive. During the peak hours they are become a nuisance especially, in off Colombo Roads and Kandy Road.
Almost all the road users in that particular road got late to school and office. There should be at least some good governance on the road!!!!
