An elephant died when it fell into a sewage pit in the Ridhimaliyadde area last morning. The accident occurred when a herd of elephants had entered the village in search of food. Pic by Bandula Bandaranayeka

Thought elephants are very inteligent and can sence loose soil.

Sri Lankans are brutes! In no country elephants suffer so much as they are in Sri Lanka. Not a day passes without a death involving elephants. There are hundreds of elephants in India, Burma, Andaman, Thailand; but no daily tragedies. Because these animals do not have food they crossover to human habitation. Why cant the so called Buddhist monks and animal rights activists do something to protect these innocent animals?

The amount of Elephants getting killed is remarkable. If we loose this giant from our soil Sri lanka will loose its identity.How many nations on earth can boast of such a majestic animal roaming its wilds...President must intervene
