The picture shows Convener of the Inter University Students Federation (IUSF) Udul Premarathne answering a call moments before he was arrested by the police. The convener and several other members of the IUSF met UNP Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya and several UNP MP before he was arrested. Pix by Pradeep Pathirana

Darren, UNP and JVP are on the same boat to HELL OF RUINATION!!! UNP never criticised assaulting Ruhuna VC by a THUG STUDENT of Ruhuna Univ. This proves their attitude.

I fully agree with you. Monks are the one fourth of the buddhism and the university denomination would be a tiny part even of it.

What are these monks doing here.. they suppose to be protecting Buddhism...instead these bogus monks have resorted to protecting campus thugs..!

These bafoons should be drop-kicked out of university, so those that want to study can do so peacefully.

in case you didnt realize, these people dont listen to anybody... university education never should be given free. When they pay money they realize how difficult it is. When they get things free they dont care..

Pls dnt jsut throw words without looking at the reality. This person has not done anything good to university students. He is trying to put them in traps and to destroy innocent students's future. Nothing else. Students are supposed to study and not to do politics. Its a shame. Anyway this will be a good news for all these innocent parents and studious uni guys

The opposition is in total disarray! Ranil cannot win any elelctions and is refusing to leave the leadership. So the rest are struggling to come up with any solution be it making friends with the devil. So they take in people like Mangala, JVP, SF and now this bully Premaratne!

garawi Friday, 29 October 2010 02:13 PM
Look at the monk is the middle in purple robe! He even has a modern hair cut! Are these real monks who are supposed to spread buddhism ! They are fake monks who spread hatred among the poor students. The should be expelled from the universities!

Arresting people will not solve any issue. They should have a round table discussion & air all of their grievances and work out an equitable solution to the problems. It has nothing to do with Monks or Buddhism , they may all be genuine students & have some grievances. If we live in a democracy, freedom of speech, freedom of assembly etc. are guaranteed by the constitution. Arresting people who assemble peacefully is an affront to democracy and to good governance.

It is shame how people talk nonsense but not the real issue. People living in Srilanka who are writing these comments seem to be against university students. But it is due to students and Unions campaigns we have been able to safe guard not only the free education of the country but also many other public properties and services.

At least it is now university students should think of only concentrating on studies rather than being pawns of any political parties or being self proclaimed 'Heros/Thugs'. They also forget the fact that they are studying on all people of this country's money.

you can goto a university if u can memorise things than others (except engineering subjects), that doesnt mean they are intelligent enough to understand priorities in life, these people should be in a university cos they dont know their priorities once entered the uni.

When I was in the Uni I was attached to Independent Group Supported by UNP.We were harassed by Anthare during the entirety of our uni life.Sirikotha did not come to protect us like this when were beaten and killed during that time.See the bad example Karu(UNP) is giving to the majority of peace loving Uni Students!UNP is with Anthare? Do they Condone what they do inside Universities? This is disgraceful move by UNP.Tears come to my eyes when I remember how UNP left us alone on the hands of Anthare and now they show so much concern about these thugs. Do you wonder why people say that UNP is ruined by people like Karu,Ravi,Mangala,Ranil?
