Two of the eight automatic spill gates located atop the Victoria dam opened today and the gushing waters caused a massive fall of water. The two spill gates opened when the water level increased to 438 meters due to the torrential rains in the area. The Victoria dam is the only dam in a hydropower reservoir with automatic spill gates that open when the water level exceeds its capacity. Pix by Shane Seneviratne

#Norltharismama - Your comment is a horrible racist statement in this day and age. How would you like to be called a 'Kaluwa" or some such derogatory name ? The Chinese have built the biggest most effective Dam in the world, the three Gorges dam. Its an engineering marvel, so are their Bridges, roadways, super fast railways and other infrastructure. Educate yourself without parroting idiotic nonsense and insulting 1/6th of the worlds population.
