This is very foolish ,an utter waste of time & money. If they are really genuine about the eating of beef, then preach to the people not eat beef, that is the proper solution, If no one eats beef then they would not have to kill cattle. This is purely for show to get noticed. Quasi - political gathering, noting more.

What is bigger crime man slaughter or cattle slaughter? In Sri-Lanka human lives are cheaper than animal lives.

Good show! Let us have a new constitution these guys call for:- Only Buddhism allowed in this country No other religions or places of religious worship (then there will be no conversions or places to get converted No Bars, no places to sell alcohol including kasippu No night clubs or caroke bars No animal of birds slaughter (including cattle, pigs, chicken etc) Kudu?? decision to be taken later
Why not try it for one year under a "parivasa" government?

Lord Buddha has put all sins killing ALL life (not just cattle), intoxication, gambling at the same level.
Why are these people singling out ONLY the killing of cattle, and turning a blind eye towards the rampant alcoholism, mushrooming casinos, etc.?

I'm Buddhist and I'm against cattle slaughter, but the intent behind these protests seem to be a desire to assert a notion of "Buddhism is superior".
I wonder if these monks would next go on to stop slaughter of all animals, including fish, as this is also a clear violation of the first precept.
If they want to promote the practice among Buddhists, that would be great. However, I'm against using the law to propagate religious/ cultural "values". People should make decisions based on their own understanding, not because the law "forces" them to do it. In that respect, the primary goal of Buddhist monks should be to promote the practice of loving-kindness and the precepts will follow automatically from the practice. These protests seem to be rooted in bigotry and aversion towards other religions and other ways of life and in the long run this would lead to more problems. I hope they can see that.

If they do this price of MILK WILL BE ABOUT RS,1000/00. OR ELSE THE CATTLE FARMS WILL BE CLOSED DOWN. Not enough income to feed the animals. Rich people will buy milk at any cost; what about the poor.-Poor man-

I'm a Buddhist but I have never come across a Buddhist teaching which advises to give preferential treatment to cattle over pigs, chickens, goats and fish.
