Careful lighting fire crackers this season: Health officials



Health officials have advised the public to be extra cautious when lighting fireworks during the new year season, as there could be a possibility of people ending up in hospitals with burn injuries.

The Head Nurse of the National Hospital, Pushpa Ramyani de Soysa said the best way to maintain a safe distance when lighting firecrackers and advised not to light them holding in hands.

"The new year is coming once a year, but injuries caused by fireworks make you suffer for days.

Many people used to admit themselves for treatment due to many reasons, such as falls, burn wounds, road accidents and physical scuffle. The health officials also advised people against consuming alcohol during the new year season, that could lead to several harmful events, accidents, quarrels and even death.
