Each countries’s ranking in athletics is based only on the number of gold medals and not in the total number of medals. The first two are Japan and China, then “one billion population” India came third having won only just 3 gold medals more than tiny Sri Lanka. We beat Singapore which spends millions in athletics and sports to its 6th position, then we beat arrogant desert boys Iran and Saudi Arabia which jointly came in the 14th position. Congratulations Sri Lanka ! . We have an Up Country Christian Indian Estate Tamil old fellow who uses and abuses DM with anti Sri Lankan comments defending India and Europe, I don’t want this low life, whose grandparents brought in Chain by the British from India to Sri Lanka, to comment using false aliases like Buffalocitizen, Sokrates, Brit, European, etc.

Awesome achievement! Very proud of these young experts! Sri Lanka is back! In 2002 we hosted to become 6th place.. during Sri Lankas glory days in sprinting! Despite the curse of our politicians, the people still achieve!

Fantastic! Imagine what we can achieve if Sri Lanka athletics were supported even 10% better than this? Hope to see private sector support these athletes and really make Sri Lanka an athletic powerhouse.

It would be great if more help is given to this sport. May be get 10% from Cricket Board whose officials have a grand time and a bloated bureaucracy with highly paid ceo etc.

@ Dr. Balasuriya, don't show your racist tendencies. Everyone has a right to comment. If you open your eyes you will see the precipice the country has fallen for the past 75 years, mainly due to racism and corruption. Remember at one time SL was second to Japan in many aspects.

Congratulations great sons and daughters of Mother Lanka! You put tiny SL ahead of Phillippines, Pakistan, Malaysia and only behind Japan, China and India - all mighty countries. Our politicians need to cover their bottoms and hang their heads in shame for placing Sri Lanka as the 2nd from bottom in economic stability, impoverishment and debt.
