Sri Lanka has received assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) 17 times since 1950, reflecting a critical and ongoing issue for the country. This pattern suggests that we have become habitual borrowers, prioritizing external financial aid over efforts to enhance domestic productivity. Unfortunately, neither past nor present governments have taken this national problem seriously. It is evident that successive administrations have been more concerned with party politics, focused on securing parliamentary seats, and exploiting their power for personal gain through large-scale corruption. Even the current government lacks a comprehensive plan to boost exports, instead relying heavily on inward foreign remittances. This is indeed a regrettable and disheartening situation for the country where the major political parties have failed miserably.
